Beer And Corn Dogs = Retro Chic

As I wrote this week's Top Ten {Tuesday} post about ITP meals, I knew I was leaving out oh so many gems. It's hard to narrow anything down to just 10, especially 10. My foodie friends could debate this topic all night long. And I know if I had attempted an OTP List (Outside the Perimeter for you non-Atlanta folk), I would have struggled even more, because there is so much food goodness even just a 20-minute drive away from town. After all, some of the best BBQ I have ever had was in random tiny towns where the owners have been their whole lives.

Here's one great OTP example. Thanks to Michael Erickson over at Fifth Group Restaurants, I heard about an OTP Meal Experience lined up for those of you in the Smyrna/Vinings area. Even better? This meal experience comes complete with Sweetwater Beer to accompany each course. My friends know that Sweetwater's 420 is my local beer of choice, so this sounds just fantastic to me!

For $50 a person, this is what you can expect:

Passed Hors d'Oeuvres
Housemade corndogs with orange-coriander “honey mustard”
Chilled white shrimp with seasonal heirloom tomato-horseradish jam
** Paired with Sweetwater Sch’wheat—a refreshing, unfiltered American wheat ale full of delicate rays of citrus hop overtones

Appetizer
"Hot wings-style" ale-brined, grilled Carolina quail with buttermilk blue cheese, celery puree, herb salad and Texas Pete butter sauce
** Paired with Sweetwater IPA—a big, bold Indian pale ale loaded with intense hop character and natural, unfiltered flavors

Entree
BBQ-braised beef brisket with smashed lady peas and fried coleslaw
** Paired with Sweetwater Motorboat—a silver medal-winning, extra-special bitter (ESB) full of sweet caramel and wheat flavors

Dessert
Bacon-wrapped “banana split” with chocolate stout ice cream, honey, chocolate and roasted peanuts
** Paired with Sweetwater Georgia Brown—an especially drinkable ale that's smooth, subtle and a little bit nutty

That dessert is making my mouth water.... and homemade corn-dogs? Insanely cool.

Sound tempting? The event will be held at South City Kitchen Vinings on Thursday, August 19 starting at 6:30pm. The $50/person includes tax and gratuity. For reservations, give them a call at 770.435.0700. Salud!
