Musical Lunch Hours

Sometimes I have to pinch myself when I find myself at awesome, cool, random events like this one :)

Last week I had the very fun opportunity to join up with a small crowd over at The W Midtown (tip: their views of the city from their top floors are insane!) for a special artist jam session with The Fray! I know, right?! How cool is that!

Star 94 hosted these awesomely laid-back guys over a lunch hour with about 30 fans in attendance. The band played three songs - two old and one new - and then took questions from the audience. I learned a few things about the band that day...

They wrote their latest album, Scars and Stories, during a cross-country tour, taking in inspiration from each city they visited from New Orleans to New York.

When asked by a fan with which famous rock star they'd love to collaborate, they were quick to shout out Elvis Costello, even though they then admitted, they'd rather just sit there in awe and listen to him play!

The last (and my favorite) Q&A answer was about Halloween costumes and the band's favorites. When they played a concert in Nottingham, England on Halloween, they all dressed up as the Robin Hood gang, including Maid Marian. Love it!

Me and the band after they finished their show - they complimented me on my Southern manners since I think I said "Thank you so much for coming and playing today!!" probably at least three times :)

I can't wait to check out The Fray's new album when it comes out early next year. In the meantime, I may be setting my Pandora on rotation of their earlier hits :)

Disclosure: I was invited by Star 94's media team to attend this event, and received no compensation in exchange for this post.

I saw them play at the Tabernacle for a small corporate event in 2008 right before they hit it big. I was really impressed with their live performance and have been a fan since. What an awesome experience for you!

Amy - that is so cool! I love those stories where people know te band before they were famous!
